本日も前回の用法の続きです。
・Lizzie and I must have looked stricken – neither of us daring to be the one to catch it, but neither wanting the blooms to fall to the ground. I could see Lizzie hesitate, and it fell to me to put her out of her misery. (リジーと私はそれを捕まえる勇気がなく、花を地面に落としたくもなかったので、不思議そうな顔をしていたことでしょう。リジーが躊躇しているのを見て、私は彼女を悲しませないようにしなければならないと思いました。)
【研究】It falls to A to do で「<義務・責任などが>Aにかかる」を意味します。
