本日も前回の用法の続きです。
・There is a perfectly well-established method of working coal which entails planned collapses. The first lot of coal is worked out leaving huge pillars holding the roof up. Then with the excavated portions supported on pit props, you remove the pillars, very carefully, one by one. Now, you can back-fill the hole with waste rock (“gobbing”) or you can knock away the pit props and engineer a controlled, stage by stage collapse. Bad news for anyone who happens to have a house on the land above, but not usually a problem for the mine. (石炭を採掘するには、計画的な崩壊を伴う確立された方法があります。最初の石炭を採掘した後、巨大な柱が天井を支えるように残されます。その後、掘り出された部分を坑木で支えながら、柱を非常に慎重に、一つずつ取り除きます。この時、穴を廃石 (ゴビング) で埋め戻すこともできますし、坑木を取り除いて、段階的に制御された崩壊を引き起こすこともできます。上の土地に家がある人にとっては悪い知らせですが、通常、鉱山にとっては問題ではありません。)
