先日触れた「too + 形容詞 + a(n)+ 名詞」に関する補足です。
(1) 規範文法的には可算名詞の単数形に限定され、不可算名詞や可算名詞の複数形は一般に認められません。[Nelson (1980)]
× It's too good food to throw away.
→It's food (which is) too good to throw away.(その食べ物を捨てるにはもったいない。)
(2) 但し、many, much, little, few といった形容詞が使用されると許容になります。
・You might think it is too much money to spend on such a thing when there are many problems to solve on this planet; (この星で解決すべき問題が数多く存在する段階で、こういったものにこれほど多くのお金をつぎ込むことはできないと考えるかもしれない。)
・The problem is, too many teachers want to pass on the students without adequately educating them. (問題は、十分な教育を施さずに学生を通してしまう教師があまりにも多い点である。)
・There is too little data to make positive statements. (肯定的な意見を述べるには、あまりにもデータが少ない。)
・As a result, many people who are deaf-blind have too few opportunities to enjoy life. (その結果、 多くの盲聾 (もうろう) 者は生活を享受する機会がほとんどなくなってしまう。)
