【研究】1. 「(動き・話を)急に止める」の意味になります。2. Wisdom英和には「short, sharp, with a start [jerk]などの表現を伴って」との記載があります。3. 上記例文の出典元である Oxford Learner's Dictionaries には、pull, bring, etc. somebody up short: to make someone suddenly stop what they are doing との記載があります。
